Innovative Collaboration Aims to Transform Rainwater into Drinking Water for Cambodian Hospitals

In a ground-breaking initiative, the Royal Academy of Cambodia, alongside Seoul National University from the Republic of Korea and the international organisation Rain For All (RFA), is embarking on a pioneering project to recycle rainwater for drinking purposes at public hospitals across Cambodia.

On 16 May 2025, a significant meeting took place, led by HE Dr San Sabai, Secretary of State for Health, who engaged with a dedicated working group from the Royal Academy of Cambodia. This gathering was organised by the Department of Health Protection within the Ministry of Health, featuring 12 key leaders and technical officials who are committed to enhancing public health in the region.

The discussions centred around the innovative “Rainwater Harvesting System for Drinking in Public Hospitals in Cambodia.” This ambitious project aims to harness the natural resource of rainwater, transforming it into a sustainable source of clean drinking water for healthcare staff, providers, and surrounding communities. Experts emphasised the multiple benefits of recycling rainwater, highlighting its potential to safeguard public health and improve the quality of life.

With collaboration at the forefront, this initiative represents a vital step towards ensuring access to safe drinking water and a healthier future for all Cambodians. As the project unfolds, it promises to set a new standard for environmental sustainability and public health in the region.
