Transport Minister Pledges to Prevent Major Roads from Flooding Next Year

The Minister of Public Works and Transport HE Sun Chanthol has said that the government will continue to repair the flood-damaged roads and upgrade them if possible, to prevent severe flooding from next year.

HE Sun Chanthol made the claim during an inspection of the flooded National Road 41 on 16 October.

“For NR41, the government is expected to start renovating next year. We will pave it higher with AC and installing a better water drainage system. Thus, from next year, there will be no flood,” HE Chanthol said to the locals.

“Meanwhile, for other roads, we are currently solving the problems ahead, such as temporarily preventing water from flowing through the roads with sandbags. For those sections already broken, we will re-evaluate and repair them later after the water recedes,” he added.

On the same day, HE Minister will also continue to inspect some other roads such as NR3, 4, 2 and 20, depending on the actual situation.

According to the Minster, as of 15 October, at least 263 roads or 325km long in total across the country were damaged by floods. (Read more)
