Transport Minister Urges Relevant Officials to Speed Up Work on Drafting New Port Law

Minister of Public Works and Transport HE Sun Chanthol urged all relevant officials to speed up works on drafting the new port law during an official meeting on Monday 26 July.

According to HE Sun Chanthol, to date, the working group has completed most of the draft.

“Currently, we are still revising the meaning, wording, and spelling of some parts to make the draft more comprehensive,” said the minister.

“The main objective of this law is to effectively control and manage the port system in Cambodia. With this new law, we hope to increase Cambodia’s competitiveness in the region by providing trusted services with reasonable prices,” he added.

After the draft law is completed, it will later be submitted to an inter-ministerial meeting for approval.

To date, Cambodia has a total of 78 river ports and 27 seaports. These ports play a role in promoting all kinds of trade activities at national, regional, and international levels.
