Transport Ministry to Launch Two News Weigh Stations on RR2 and in Kratie Province

To prevent road damage caused mostly by overweight vehicles, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) will soon set up two new weigh stations on the Phnom Penh Ring Road 2 and in Kratie Province.

MPWT also plans to build two more in those vulnerable provinces.

MPWT Secretary of State HE Seng Chhuon said on 05 February that these two new weigh stations will help encourage heavy vehicle drivers to stop overloading their trucks and obey the law.

“If we can stop the overweight trucks, our roads and overall infrastructure will last longer and will be less damaged,” said HE Seng Chhuon.

According to an MPWT report, in 2020, there were more than 580,000 overweight trucks caught nationwide, or equivalent to over 27.79% of the total number of vehicles.

Earlier this month, MPTW launched a Heavy Vehicle Driver Training Centre in Prek Pnov district. (Read more)
