UN Urges Cambodia to Strengthen Road Safety

The UN Special Envoy for Road Safety has urged Cambodia to strengthen road safety measures through the implementation of multiple projects, emphasising that road safety is still a challenge in Cambodia.

The concern was raised during the meeting between Special Envoy of the United Nations HE Jean Todt with  Minister of Public Works and Transport HE Sun Chanthol on 24 November.

HE Jin Todt highlighted significant points that Cambodia should improve further including public education on traffic safety, installation of speed cameras, transparent driving tests, helmet enforcement, and traffic law enforcement, especially on drunk drivers.

HE Sun Chanthol has agreed to the suggestions and pointed out that the government has been thus far implementing multiple campaigns to tackle with the issue. These include the encouragement of EV usage, the development and launch of modern technology (Driving Rules App, Point Deduction) and the dissemination of traffic safety awareness through various media.
