Vietnam begins construction on VinWonders Phu Quoc giant theme park

Vietnam’s Vinpearl Joint Stock Company officially announced on 01 June a US$1 billion investment for the country’s largest amusement park, the VinWonders Phu Quoc project, on Phu Quoc island situated about 50 kilometres from the southwestern province of Hien Tien.

Set on 27 hectares, VinWonders Phu Quoc has won a record as the largest park in Vietnam and is set to offer more than 100 modern rides for tourists. The grand amusement park is expected to be Asia’s biggest and most exciting entertainment centre.

VinWonders Phu Quoc is currently in the first phase of the project which is divided into six subdivisions: Medieval Europe, Magic World, Secret Village, Ocean Palace, Cyclone and Adventure World, and 12 other unique stories stemming from various human civilizations.

In addition, the project also includes other theme park areas including nature and a Recreation Centre, which includes a jungle resort, a cable car, an air train, a zoo, and an abundance of shops and cafes.

For the second phase, the project will build the Hai Vuong Palace, a proud symbol of VinWonders Phu Quoc. Hai Vuong Palace will be one of the five largest aquariums in the world with an area of up to 15,000 square metres. Featuring a giant sea turtle-shaped structure, the Hai Vuong Palace will be designed as a ‘miniature ocean’ to host thousands of species, such as jellyfish, colourful sea fish, penguins and sharks. The company is designing this palace because it wants tourists to experience “Sleeping in the ocean” once they visit there.

The construction of VinWonders Phu Quoc, one of Asia’s leading theme parks, is expected to not only effectively promote Vietnam’s domestic tourism industry during the economic recovery in the post-COVID-19 period but also underscores the capacity of Vietnam’s entertainment industry to have appeal.

It should be noted that the Tral Island or Phu Quoc, visible from Bokor Mountain in Cambodia, is located only 12km from the Kampot coast and only 5km from Seh Island.
