Villagers Along Borders Told Not to Lease Farmland to Foreign Nationals

Samdech Sar Kheng, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior has advised villagers along Cambodia’s borders not to lease farmland to foreign nationals from neighbouring countries, to avoid illegal land occupation and land disputes.

Samdech Sar Kheng made the remarks during the annual meeting of the Prey Veng administration held on 22 March.

“People long borderline rent farmland to other (foreigners) because it is easy for earning income. However, after renting for a long time, those (foreigners) will claim that they occupy these lands, leading to a complicated land dispute and illegal encroachment,” said Samdech Sar Kheng.

The rights of renting farmland along borders shall be studied thoroughly, since it is a matter of territorial integrity, he said.
