World Bank to Help Renovate 750km of Rural Roads in Eight Provinces

The World Bank will provide more funds to the Cambodian Government to upgrade and renovate a total of 750km of rural roads from 2023 to 2027 extending the World Bank’s active involvement in Cambodia’s development. 

After completing the first phase of the Disaster Management Project in Cambodia and Southeast Asia, on 31 January 2023, HE Ouk Rabun, Minister of Rural Development, and Ms Vica Rosario Bogaerts, World Bank Representative, officially announced the implementation of the second phase of the project under the co-financing of the World Bank and the contribution of the Cambodian Government. 

Phase 2 of the project will last for three years, from 2023 to 2027. Under this project, the Cambodian government plans to upgrade rural roads to double-decker asphalt (DBST) and concrete pavement with a total length of 750km. 

The project is to be implemented in eight provinces, including Kampong Speu, Kampong Chhnang, Pursat, Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, and Siem Reap. Tbong Khmum and Kampong Cham. 

The first phase of the project started in July 2017 and was completed in August 2022 by improving 252.61km of roads and 14 bridges, 61 block drains, and 361 round drains in Kandal, Kampong Cham, Tbong Khmum, Kratie, Stung Treng, and Siem Reap.
