Pioneering the Future: Gov’t Establishes Inter-Ministerial Working Group to Drive Prek Chek Funan Techo Project

The Cambodian government has taken a significant stride towards the nation’s progressive development by establishing an inter-ministerial working group dedicated to implementing the visionary “Prek Chek Funan Techo” navigation road project. This momentous decision was formalized through decision No. 42, dated June 7, 2023.

Comprising a total of 35 esteemed members, the inter-ministerial commission is led by the Minister of Public Works and Transport, who assumes the role of chairman. With a clear mandate, the commission is entrusted with several key responsibilities to ensure the successful realization of the “Prek Chek Funan Techo” project.

Among the pivotal roles of the commission are the review and advisory on legal framework procedures, evaluation of economic efficiency, and proposition of investment models for the transformational “Prek Chek Funan Techo” route, connecting Prek Takeo on the Mekong Delta to Kep Sea.

Furthermore, the commission is actively engaged in meticulous project preparation, seeking investment partners to ensure quality and efficacy, while rigorously assessing the investment agreement associated with the venture.

The commission’s efforts are geared towards expediting the implementation of the “Prek Chek Funan Techo” navigation project, heralding accelerated growth in Cambodia’s inland waterway and sea transport sector. This transformative initiative is poised to lower transportation costs and foster sustainable economic growth, ensuring a promising future for the national economy.

The commission is committed to delivering comprehensive progress reports to the head of the Royal Government, enabling informed decision-making and transparent governance.

Endorsed by the Council of Ministers, the Inter-Ministerial Commission’s report on the Tonle Bassac Navigation Road and Logistics Project, now aptly named the “Prek Chek Funan Techo” project, sets the stage for an extraordinary endeavour. With an estimated cost of approximately US$1.7 billion and a projected timeline spanning four years, this monumental project has been underpinned by meticulous research conducted over two years, with notable contributions from esteemed entities such as China Bridge and Road Corporation (CRBC) and CCCC Water Transport Consultant.
