The Cambodia-China Friendship Mekong Kratie Bridge has officially opened its lanes to permanent public traffic starting April 1, 2026, fulfilling a key commitment to regional infrastructure development. According to His Excellency Phorn Rim, spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, the bridge represents a vital artery in the nation’s transport network.

Construction on the $111 million bridge originally began on January 2, 2023, under the high presidency of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, former Prime Minister, and His Excellency Wang Wentian, former Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia. The bridge stands as a symbol of the enduring cooperation between the two nations, specifically aimed at fostering internal and cross-border connectivity.

His Excellency Phorn Rim emphasized that the project is more than just a physical connection; it is a strategic hope for citizens living on both the eastern and western banks of the Mekong. By bridging the distance to remote areas in the Northeast, the structure is expected to facilitate easier travel and cargo transport, ultimately boosting the local economy and improving the quality of life for the surrounding communities.
