308-hectare eco-tourism development investment project receives in-principle approval

The relevant authorities approved a 308-hectare eco-tourism development investment project in Sre Ambel district, Koh Kong province, while the project owner was requested to prepare a details investment and business plan and submit it to the Ministry of Environment for review and decision.

Relevant officials led by a senior official at the Ministry of Environment, department of environment, and commune/district authorities inspected the location of the 308 hectares of land in the Cardamom Mountain Biodiversity Conservation Corridor in Boeung Preav Commune, Sre Ambel district on May 17, according to a post at the Koh Kong administration.

Mr Ouk Pheaktra, Deputy Governor of Koh Kong Province, said that the provincial authorities and the Ministry of Environment had supported investment in eco-tourism development projects, but the firm has to carefully adhere to environmental protection, and biodiversity conservation, and technical standards.

Relevant authorities have asked the company to prepare a detailed plan of the investment project to submit to the Ministry of Environment to review and approve the procedures. However, all the construction of infrastructure has to follow the construction law if any construction has to start.

Mr Ouk Pheaktra said that the Koh Kong Provincial Administration always welcomes and supports companies interested in leasing land to invest in establishing natural tourism areas in Koh Kong Province as part of the conservation of natural resources, promoting the local economy, and participating in the development of ecotourism.

On September 4, 2021, the Cambodian government has agreed to lease state land to private firms to invest in building a 369-hectare aquaculture crab farm and a small-scale port in Sre Ambel district, Koh Kong province. (Read more)
