Cambodia Receives Aid From Adb for 22 Rural Roads

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has signed a deal with the government of Cambodia to provide US$66 million financing to build 22 rural roads in five provinces across the kingdom.

The Financing Agreement was signed on 6 July between Cambodia’s Senior Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance H.E.Aun Pornmoniroth and the Acting Country Director of Cambodia Resident Mission of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Hideaki Iwasaki.

The project is proceeding under the ‘Rural Road Improvement Project III’ which comprises building 22 DBST and concrete roads of a total length of 359.8 kilometres in five provinces including Kampong Cham, Tboung Khmum, Prey Veng, Svay Rieng, and Kratie provinces.

According to the Ministry press release, this project is part of the government rural development project to help improve rural infrastructure as well as to reduce gap between the poor and the rich.

Beside this loan, the ADB on the same day also provided another US$141 million for a climate-friendly agribusiness value chain sector project.

H.E.Aun Pornmoniroth said that Cambodia has so far received approximately US$2.95 billion financing from the ADB, of which US$ 2.46 billion is concessional loan to implement a total of 101 projects and US$487 million is grant-aid to develop 51 projects.

Regarding the rural road improvement, the government of Cambodia has also recently received another US$60 million funds from World Bank to build 25 rural roads as well (read more).
