Modernizing Cambodia’s Transit: China’s CCECC Nears Completion of Major Transportation Feasibility Studies

Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol urges the Chinese state-owned engineering giant to expand high-value investments aligned with the Kingdom’s Pentagonal Strategy

In a major step toward transforming Cambodia’s logistics and transit landscape, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) is approaching the final stages of comprehensive feasibility studies aimed at modernizing the Kingdom’s transportation network.

The strategic update was unveiled during a high-level bilateral meeting on Monday, June 29, 2026, in Beijing. His Excellency Sun Chanthol, Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), met with senior executives of CCECC, led by company President Wang Xiangdong, to discuss future infrastructure cooperation.

During the discussions, Mr. Wang highlighted CCECC’s vast global portfolio and its deep-seated expertise as a leading Chinese state-owned enterprise specializing in mega-infrastructure. The corporation’s extensive track record spans the construction of complex bridges, road networks, railways, and airports across the globe.

Turning to the company’s footprint in Southeast Asia, Mr. Wang reported significant headway on CCECC’s transport modernization initiatives in Cambodia. He noted that the company has been actively collaborating with Cambodian authorities, and their joint technical efforts are steering the comprehensive feasibility studies toward a swift completion in the near future.

In response, Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol warmly welcomed CCECC’s enduring commitment to the physical development of Cambodia’s infrastructure. He emphasized that Phnom Penh is eagerly awaiting the final results of the feasibility studies to thoroughly evaluate and plan the next phases of project implementation.

Beyond transit connectivity, the Cambodian delegation encouraged the Chinese engineering giant to expand its commercial footprint within the Kingdom. Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol urged CCECC to explore diversified investment ventures, particularly targeting key priority sectors capable of providing high added value, accelerating economic growth, and generating high-quality employment opportunities for Cambodian citizens.
