Cambodia’s Intermodal Logistics Master Plan Requires $36.6 Billion Investment to Drive Economic Transformation

Representing Cambodia at a high-level Belt and Road parallel forum in China, officials spotlight the visionary 174-project roadmap and the transformative impact of the Funan Techo Canal.

Cambodia’s comprehensive master plan on the intermodal transport and logistics system for 2023–2033 requires an estimated investment capital of $36.6 billion to fully execute its wide-ranging infrastructure strategy. The figures were officially presented by the Cambodian delegation during a Belt and Road thematic forum organized by the Export–Import Bank of China, held on October 21, 2026, as an official side event of the annual Financial Street Forum in China.

Lim Visal, Deputy Secretary General of the Cambodian Investment Committee, spoke on behalf of the delegation to express deep appreciation to the Export–Import Bank of China for its active and sustained support of Cambodia’s infrastructure development. He specifically noted the landmark signing of a cooperative credit agreement worth nearly $1 billion for the historic Funan Techo Canal project, which was finalized on September 9, 2026, in Xiamen, Fujian province.

Highlighting the strategic significance of the mega-canal, Lim Visal emphasized that the historic project will serve as a powerful catalyst for reshaping the nation’s logistics landscape. The waterway is expected to sharply reduce transport costs, enhance water resource management efficiency, boost aquaculture yields, and create a highly lucrative economic corridor that contributes directly to achieving Cambodia’s visionary 2050 goals.

During the forum, the Cambodian representative extended a formal invitation to international investors to conduct feasibility studies and seize lucrative investment opportunities along the Funan Techo Canal corridor. Investors were also encouraged to participate in executing the 174 priority infrastructure projects outlined within the 2023–2033 Intermodal Transport and Logistics Master Plan. (read more)
