The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has provided a US$12 million loan to build a wastewater treatment plant, sewage system, landfill, and other related infrastructure in Stung Sen city in Kampong Thom province.

According to a meeting between relevant officials on Wednesday 7 July, the project includes the construction of a wastewater treatment plant with the capacity to filter up to 2,500 cubic metres of wastewater per day, a 39.2km sewage pipe and a 17.1km drainage network, as well as a landfill with the storage capacity of 48,000 cubic metres.

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport has already signed a construction contract with China First Metallurgical Group Ltd. Meanwhile, the construction will take three years to complete, from July 2020 to July 2023.

During the meeting, Kampong Thom Governor HE Sok Lu has also ordered relevant authorities to begin inspecting the sites and taking action on illegal land encroachment in that area before the actual construction begins.
