Airport Development Project in Poipet to Resume

The government has allowed a local firm to reopen an airport development project in Poipet City, according to civil aviation officials.

On 22 October 2018, Mr Sinn Chanserey Vutha, spokesman for State Secretary of Civil Aviation (SSCA) told Construction &Property Magazine that the domestic airport development project in Poipet was approved in principle by the government after years of suspension.

“This airport plan was initiated since 2006 …it was suspended due to the financial crisis in 2007-2008 and just reactivated due to the prosperity of Cambodia economy”, he said in a telegram response.

Mr Sinn Chanserey Vutha estimated that the development project by Poipet Airport Investment is going to cost between US$40-US$50 million, which could be built on the former airport.

However, he was not able to confirm details about the airport capacity or construction date. “It is too earlier to speculate about this”, he said.
