JICA signs US$30m additional grant to expand water supply system in Svay Rieng

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has signed an amendment to a grant agreement with the Ministry of Economy to expand the water supply system (WSS) in Svay Rieng province worth more than US$30m (3,986 million yen). The agreement was signed by His Excellency Aun Porn Moniroth, Minister of Economy and Finance, on 21 March 2023.

The grant aims to maintain the stability of the water supply service up to 6,000 cubic meters per day and improve access to clean water in Svay Rieng, and was signed by HE Ouch Borith, Permanent Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and HE Takesen Seoki, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, in an exchange of letters. As a major development partner in the water supply sector, JICA has always adhered to a comprehensive development approach to strengthen the long-term strategic partnership with the Cambodian government. With JICA’s support, the expansion of the WSS in Svay Rieng is expected to positively impact the health and well-being of local residents.

This grant agreement marks another milestone in the cooperation between Japan and Cambodia, showcasing the strong commitment of JICA and the Cambodian government to improve the living standards of Cambodians, particularly in rural areas. The signing of the grant agreement also reflects Japan’s continued support for Cambodia’s development efforts, particularly in the area of water supply.
