As Takhmao Techo International Airport achieves 55%, New Phnom Penh Expressway Connection Confirmed

Progress on the construction of the Techo Takhmao International Airport project is currently at 55% with work to date consuming over 50% of the estimated US$1.5 billion project value. The airport is scheduled to commence operations in early 2025, marking a significant milestone in Cambodia’s infrastructure development. Loak Oknha Charles Vann also provided insights into the concurrent project involving the construction of an expressway connecting Phnom Penh to the new international airport. The proposed expressway, spanning 13.5km with a width of 60 meters, aims to streamline connectivity. While specific details on the construction timeline and budget remain pending, Loak Oknha Charles Vann indicated that the costs are factored into the joint budget of the Kbal Thnal flyover project, which holds a total project cost of US$36.7 million.

The Kbal Thnal flyover project, a collaboration between the Cambodian government and the Cambodian Overseas Investment Company (OCIC), focuses on the intersection of Samdech Techo Hun Sen Blvd., Monivong Blvd., and Royal Cambodian Armed Forces Blvd. in Khan Chamkarmon and Khan Meanchey, Phnom Penh. With a planned construction period of 36 months, the second phase of the Monivong flyover is set to conclude ahead of schedule by April 2025 while the original plan was by August 2025, further underscoring the commitment to accelerated infrastructure development.
