Australia Partners with Two Local Factories to Boost Cambodia’s Cashew Processing Capacity

Australia has officially entered into a partnership with two local factories to enhance their cashew processing capabilities, a move designed to accelerate the development of the Kingdom’s agri-food sector. According to an announcement from the Australian Embassy in Cambodia on May 6, 2026, this initiative reflects Australia’s commitment to working with Cambodian agri-businesses to strengthen their capacity, attract new investment, and foster a more robust and sustainable economic landscape.

Despite being the world’s second-largest producer of raw cashew nuts, Cambodia currently processes less than 10 percent of its total yield domestically. To address this gap and increase local value-added production, Australia is collaborating with two key processing facilities to improve their operations and meet international standards. This technical and strategic support is provided through the Cambodia Australia Partnership for Resilient Economic Development (CAPRED) program.

The partnership aims to ensure that a greater share of the economic benefits from the cashew industry remains within the country, directly benefiting local farmers and creating sustainable employment opportunities in rural communities. This project is a vital component of a broader effort to modernize Cambodia’s agricultural processing and enhance its competitive edge in global food markets. Recently, under the Australian aid program, Cambodia has also signed trade cooperation agreements in the agricultural sector, such as exporting Cambodian rice to Australia, etc. (read more)
