Basic Work Completed for 17-hectare Landfill in Sihanoukville

The responsible team has already completed the basic works such as demining and clearing the landscape for the 17-hectares million landfill project in Sihanoukville, according to a meeting between the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and the responsible firm on 26 August.

Located in Prey Nob district, the project cost US$5 million and is being implemented by Heng Sambath Import Export Company. Construction started on 1 July and will take 17 months to complete.

In the first five years, this new landfill will capable of storing up to 880,000 cubic metres of rubbish. The site includes four holes (130m wide, 150m long, and 2-4 metres deep each), a system to release rainwater from the bottom of the holes, a wastewater collection system, and a pipe system to release toxic gases.
