Battambang Rural Infrastructure Nears Major Milestone with 60 Percent Completion of Key Road Projects

Ministry of Rural Development inspection confirms steady progress on over 20 kilometers of upgraded connectivity for local communities

The Ministry of Rural Development has announced that the construction of two significant rural road projects in Battambang province has reached approximately 60 percent completion. This update follows a site inspection led by His Excellency Chhay Rithisen, Minister of Rural Development, and a senior delegation who reviewed the progress of these vital transport links last week.

The first project, designated as NR.57B1-Rung Chrey, consists of a road paved with Double Bituminous Surface Treatment (DBST) and reinforced concrete. Spanning a total length of 9.907 kilometers with a width of 8 meters, the road connects Rung Chrey village in Rung Chrey commune to Tuol Ta Sok village in Bansay Traeng commune, Thmar Koul district. This infrastructure improvement is set to directly benefit 1,672 families, comprising 5,318 individuals, while providing indirect benefits to an additional 5,560 families, totaling 30,875 residents. Construction on this segment began in February 2025 and is currently 57 percent complete, with final completion slated for mid-2026.

The second project, NR.57B-Rung Chrey, also utilizes a combination of DBST and concrete paving, stretching 10.404 kilometers with a width of 7 meters. This line links Ballang Kraom village in Rung Chrey commune, Thmar Koul district, to Svay Chrum village in Bavel commune, Bavel district. This route serves as a crucial artery for 2,126 families, or 9,554 direct beneficiaries, and is expected to support 1,087 indirect beneficiary families in the surrounding area.

These road upgrades are part of the government’s ongoing commitment to enhancing rural connectivity, facilitating easier access to markets, schools, and healthcare for thousands of residents. By replacing aging infrastructure with durable paving, the Ministry aims to reduce travel times and stimulate local economic growth across the Thmar Koul and Bavel districts. The delegation’s inspection highlights the priority placed on maintaining quality standards and ensuring these projects meet their projected timelines for the benefit of the community.
