A landmark agreement signed by the Ministries of Tourism and Rural Development targets sustainable growth, resilient transport, and clean water access across the kingdom

In a coordinated effort to modernize Cambodia’s countryside and tap into its vast ecological potential, the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Rural Development have officially entered into a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding. The strategic agreement was signed on June 1, 2026, during a formal ceremony presided over by HE Chhay Rithisen, Minister of Rural Development, and HE Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism.

The collaborative framework is designed to deepen institutional synergy, directly accelerating the sustainable and inclusive advancement of both rural communities and localized tourism hubs. By effectively pooling their administrative resources, both ministries aim to cultivate socioeconomic and cultural progress across Cambodia’s rural landscapes, which officials frequently celebrate as the nation’s invaluable green gold.

The partnership outlines three core pillars of action intended to significantly upgrade provincial infrastructure and livelihoods. First, the ministries will focus on constructing climate-resilient rural transport networks, expanding access to clean water and sanitation, and developing model villages aimed at diversifying local economies to lift household incomes. Second, the pact commits to improving the efficiency of public service delivery to elevate living standards for both local residents and international travelers. Finally, both institutions will establish regular channels to exchange technical expertise, data, and development strategies to maximize the impact of existing state assets.

This inter-ministerial initiative marks a pivotal step toward integrating rural development with eco-tourism, ensuring that economic benefits from international visitors extend deep into Cambodia’s interior provinces.
