Bentley Systems Bolsters AI Capabilities with Key Infrastructure Acquisitions

Bentley Systems, a global leader in infrastructure engineering software, has announced the strategic acquisition of Talon Aerolytics and the technical assets of Pointivo. The move signals a major expansion in Bentley’s ability to modernize and maintain the world’s most critical networks through AI-driven “digital twins.”

As global demand for 5G deployment and power grid modernization surges, the manual inspection of cell towers and transmission lines has become increasingly difficult. Bentley’s Asset Analytics division is solving this by using drones to capture millimeter-accurate imagery, creating virtual replicas (digital twins) of physical assets.

With these new acquisitions, Bentley aims to scale its automated inspection services, which can already detect technical discrepancies—such as a transmitter tilt being off by a single degree—without requiring crews to climb thousands of vertical feet.

The acquisitions, which closed in December, bring specialized technology to Bentley. Talon Aerolytics provides “no-code” workflows that allow teams to manage the entire machine learning process. Their expertise lies in site surveys and the digitization of assets across telecom and electric utilities. Meanwhile, Pointivo contributes advanced AI-powered damage detection, geolocation, and drone data processing capabilities.

Talon’s no-code workflows enable teams to manage the entire machine learning process and deliver AI-powered inspection insights.

The integration of these technologies is expected to reduce costs for operators by replacing manual labor with AI-powered insights, increase resilience as AI inspections can spot potential structural or electrical problems before they cause outages, and support global infrastructure requirements of global electrification and 5G rollouts.

“These acquisitions significantly strengthen Bentley’s leadership in the burgeoning Asset Analytics market,” stated James Lee, COO of Bentley Systems. “We are enabling infrastructure owners to digitize, analyze, and optimize their assets at scale.”

In just the last two years, Bentley’s technology has already analyzed over 40,000 towers. By incorporating Talon’s proven business model and Pointivo’s technical precision, Bentley is positioning itself as the primary architect for the “digital era” of infrastructure maintenance.
