Bulgarian Ambassador Vows to Boost Investment in Cambodia as Trade Volume Increases by 78% in 2022

The Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to Cambodia, Mrs. Marinela Petkova, has pledged to attract more Bulgarian businessmen and investors to Cambodia to explore investment opportunities. The commitment was made during a meeting between HE Pan Sosak, Minister of Commerce, and Mrs. Petkova on March 15, 2023.

According to the meeting, the current trade volume between Cambodia and Bulgaria has reached over US$ 8.1 million, which represents an impressive 78% increase compared to the previous year, which was valued at US$ 4.54 million.

The ambassador said she will encourage Bulgarian businessmen and investors to explore two key areas for investment. The first is agriculture, which includes agricultural products, fruits, and fertilizers, while the second is tourism in Cambodia, which can contribute to economic recovery and boost bilateral trade volume between the two countries.

In response to the ambassador’s commitment, the Minister welcomed the move and pledged to work closely to improve the business and investment environment in Cambodia to facilitate the development of the country’s economy.

Cambodia and Bulgaria have enjoyed growth in trade volume in recent years, and by 2022, the trade volume between the two countries reached approximately $8.1 million. Potential exports from Cambodia to Bulgaria include clothing, footwear, sugar, and tobacco, while potential imports from Bulgaria include agricultural fertilizers, copper, glass, and flour.
