Cambodia and Chinese Entrepreneurs Alliance to Drive Agricultural and Agro-Industrial Investment

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries is collaborating with Chinese business leaders to accelerate investment in Cambodia’s agricultural and agro-industrial sectors, creating a fresh wave of opportunities for local farmers and agribusinesses. This joint initiative was the central focus of a bilateral consultation held on June 15, 2026, between His Excellency Ky Chanromduol, Under Secretary of State for the Ministry, and George Zhang, Secretary-General of the Innovation Entrepreneurship Association in Cambodia. The meeting aimed to thoroughly analyze the kingdom’s untapped potential and establish clear channels for high-value foreign direct investment.

During the session, His Excellency Ky Chanromduol welcomed the Chinese delegation’s strong interest in the country’s rural economy, noting that deeper cooperation would inject vital momentum into the nation’s agricultural modernization efforts. He presented four primary strategic pillars that make Cambodia an attractive destination for agricultural capital. First among these is the viable export pathway for 17 distinct high-potential Cambodian agricultural commodities directly into the vast Chinese market. Second, he highlighted the robust investment incentives provided by the Royal Government of Cambodia through the Qualified Investment Project framework, which offers substantial tax exemptions and administrative support to eligible ventures.

Furthermore, the ministry outlined streamlined official procedures encompassing registration, advanced processing techniques, logistics, drying facility operations, and export protocols for critical high-value products. These prioritized products include swiftlet nests, durians, mangoes, cashew nuts, dried longans, cassava, wine rice, and various livestock operations destined for Chinese consumers. The final pillar focuses on institutional knowledge sharing, encouraging foreign firms to engage in joint scientific research initiatives alongside the Cambodian Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

The Under Secretary of State emphasized that these targeted sectors are essential for transforming traditional farming into a value-added industrial powerhouse. By upgrading the processing and logistics ecosystem, the partnership is expected to attract sophisticated international infrastructure, boost domestic production quality, and directly improve the livelihoods of rural smallholders.

In response, George Zhang expressed his gratitude to the ministry for providing comprehensive investment guidelines and practical recommendations. He affirmed that his association would actively publicize Cambodia’s favorable government incentive policies and competitive advantages to prospective investors across China, encouraging them to set up long-term commercial projects in the kingdom. In the past, there were Chinese companies that had also planned to invest in the production of agricultural machinery and equipment in Cambodia. (Read more)
