Korea Provides Professional Training for Cambodia to Enhance Cultural Heritage Preservation & Tourism Development

APSARA Authority and the Korean Heritage Agency have launched a four-day training program to bolster Cambodia’s cultural heritage management, focusing on conservation, tourism development, and leveraging cultural assets. Radio National of Cambodia announced this collaborative effort on 8 October 2024.

The initiative, held from 7 to 10 October 2024, aims to integrate expertise from Korean heritage professionals to improve conservation efforts at iconic sites like Angkor Wat and foster tourism-linked economic growth.

According to Mr. Long Kosal, Deputy Director General of APSARA Authority, training is vital to preserving Cambodia’s cultural landmarks and enhancing the tourism sector in Angkor. He highlighted its role in supporting the ongoing restoration work at Angkor Wat and other temple sites.

Mr. Kim Hyunsung, a representative from the Korean Heritage Agency, outlined the program’s emphasis on conservation and the development of local tourism products that utilize cultural heritage to generate valuable visitor experiences.

In addition to these objectives, Mr. Kim Tha, speaking for the Korean Heritage Agency, expressed continued commitment to supporting Angkor’s preservation and sustainable development. The training sessions covered various topics, from advanced conservation techniques to strategies for creating heritage-inspired souvenirs that could boost the local economy. Participants were equipped with practical knowledge and skills to integrate cultural heritage with tourism initiatives, positioning Cambodia as a prominent cultural and tourist destination.
