Chinese Embassy Commits to Promoting Strategic Investment and Business Expansion in Battambang Province

Focus on agro-processing and the potential Special Economic Zone marks a new chapter in Cambodia-China economic cooperation

The Chinese Embassy in Cambodia has identified significant potential within the rice and agricultural sectors of Battambang province, pledging to actively encourage more Chinese enterprises to explore investment and business opportunities in the region. This commitment was formalized during a high-level discussion between His Excellency Wang Wenbin, the Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, and His Excellency Sok Lou, the Governor of Battambang Province, on March 6, 2026.

During the consultation, Governor Sok Lou provided a comprehensive overview of the province’s geographical advantages and its diverse economic potential, particularly in agriculture, tourism, services, and its well-integrated irrigation system. He emphasized that while Battambang is a powerhouse for agricultural production, the local capacity for value-added processing and packaging remains a critical area for growth. To address this, the Governor requested the Ambassador’s assistance in mobilizing Chinese investors to focus on the agro-industrial sector and proposed the establishment of a dedicated Chinese Special Economic Zone in Battambang to streamline industrial activities.

In response, Ambassador Wang Wenbin acknowledged the evident and high potential of the province’s rice industry and various other agricultural commodities. He affirmed that the embassy would play a proactive role in facilitating these connections, ensuring that a growing number of Chinese businesses are made aware of the investment climate in Battambang. This collaborative effort is expected to modernize local agricultural supply chains and further strengthen the long term economic partnership between the two nations.
