Cambodia and Malaysia Forge Stronger Trade Relations with New MOU

In a significant step towards enhancing economic collaboration, Cambodia and Malaysia have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) aimed at boosting trade and investment between the two nations. This landmark agreement was finalized during discussions on May 6, 2025, involving representatives from the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce and the Malaysian China Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The MOU establishes a framework designed to strengthen economic ties and foster cooperation between the business sectors of both countries. Oknha Sok Piseth, Vice President of the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce, emphasized the impressive growth in trade and investment from Malaysia in key sectors throughout Cambodia. He attributed this growth to the nation’s young workforce, favorable investment climate, and proactive government incentive policies, all of which align with Cambodia’s aspirational goal of becoming a high-income nation by the year 2050.

Datuk Eng Yi Ping, President of the Malaysian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, highlighted the purpose of his delegation’s visit— to explore potential cooperation opportunities and promote significant business events within ASEAN. Among these events are the 14th ACCCIM Young Entrepreneurs Conference, the ASEAN AI Business Summit, and the ASEAN China Business Leaders Conference 2025.

Both parties expressed optimism that this MOU will pave the way for new trade and investment prospects, thereby contributing to the economic growth of both Cambodia and Malaysia. The agreement signifies a commitment to fostering stronger ties between the business communities, enhancing mutual benefits for both nations as they look toward a prosperous future together.
