Cambodia and Vietnam Target Bilateral Trade Beyond $12 Billion in 2026
High-level talks in Hanoi reinforce cross-border economic integration, infrastructure connectivity, and joint support for small and medium enterprises on the path toward a $20 billion trade horizon
Economic cooperation between Cambodia and Vietnam is accelerating toward new historical heights as bilateral trade volume is projected to exceed $12 billion in 2026. The optimistic forecast was underscored on July 28, 2026, during high-level diplomatic discussions between National Assembly President Samdech Maharathsaphea Thipadei Khuon Sudary and Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung in Hanoi. Both leaders affirmed that two-way trade continues to grow steadily and surpass expectations, solidifying Vietnam’s role as one of Cambodia’s most pivotal regional economic partners.
During the talks, Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung expressed full backing for Cambodia’s national development objectives, calling on all Vietnamese ministries and institutions to immediately execute existing bilateral agreements to serve the shared economic interests of both nations. In addition, the Vietnamese leader pledged active support for initiatives aimed at boosting small and medium-sized enterprises in Cambodia, recognizing them as essential drivers of local job creation and cross-border commercial exchanges.
Reviewing recent trade performance, Samdech Khuon Sudary noted that trade turnover between the two neighboring countries expanded significantly in 2025, reaching $11.33 billion. Building upon this strong momentum, both governments are focusing on accelerating economic cooperation to surpass the $12 billion milestone this year while working steadily toward a broader long-term target of $20 billion in two-way trade.
This strategic trajectory aligns with commitments established earlier in June 2026 between Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet and Prime Minister Le Minh Hung. During their engagements, the two heads of government agreed to prioritize deeper economic integration, regional infrastructure connectivity, and cross-border security measures designed to facilitate seamless trade and deepen ties between the Cambodian and Vietnamese peoples.
