Cambodia-Chinese Accelerate Phnom Penh-Poipet Expressway Project

Cambodia and China are working together to accelerate infrastructure development projects in Cambodia, focusing on the Phnom Penh-Poipet Expressway. The Department of Foreign Capital and Foreign Investment in China has expressed strong support for the priority project and plans to establish a technical working group to expedite activities related to the high-speed railway project. This was announced during a meeting between HE Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister, Minister of Public Works and Transport, and the Chinese delegation on 23 March 2023.

Separately, the Cambodian side HE Senior Minister approved the proposal of the Department, with the appointment of leaders and professional officials from relevant institutions.

China has decided to provide a grant of 300 million yuan, equivalent to about $US 44 mil, to support the Cambodian railway project, while this project will cost more than 4 billion US dollars. (Read more)

The two sides also discussed other projects, including:

(1). Reconstruction project of NR No. 3, Veal Renh – Trapeang Ropov, completed by CRBC China Road and Bridge Corporation. (Read more)

(2). The project to expand NR No. 6 from Siem Reap New International Airport to Siem Reap has been studied by SHANGHAI CONSTRUCTION GROUP CO., LTD. (Read more)

(3). Tonle Bassac Navigation and Logistics System Project, studied in detail by CCCC WATER TRANSPORTATION CONSULTANTS CO., LTD. (Read more)
