Cambodia to Sell 15 million Tons of Carbon Credit to International Companies

Cambodia has agreed to sell 15 million tons of carbon credit from three REDD+ projects to major international corporations, according to the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27).

Cambodia has increased its REDD + program by expanding its responsibility for the project and with the support of key project partners, including the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and the Wildlife Alliance (WA).

Through the REDD + program, the Ministry of Environment has implemented three projects since 2016 including Keo Seima, the southern Cardamom Mountains, and Prey Lang, which cover an area of ​​1.27 million hectares.

Cambodia is also increasing the process of selling carbon credits from 1 million hectares to nearly 3 million hectares in 2022. (Read more)

According to official data, deforestation and forest degradation are major contributors to the climate crisis, accounting for about 10% to 12% of all emissions.
