Cambodia Allies with Private Sector to Drive National Electric Vehicle Adoption

The Ministry of Environment and One Road Industrial sign a milestone agreement to curb transport emissions and advance toward the 2050 carbon neutrality goal

The Ministry of Environment and One Road Industrial Cambodia Co Ltd officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 8 June 2026 to strengthen environmental protection and accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles across Cambodia. This collaborative framework marks a significant step toward uniting public oversight with private-sector resources to transform the domestic transportation landscape.

HE Eang Sophalleth, the Minister of Environment, stated that the partnership directly supports the Cambodian government’s national climate policies. He emphasized a firm institutional commitment to combating climate change by lowering greenhouse gas emissions, reducing air pollution from conventional vehicle fuels, and scaling up green energy alternatives.

The minister further explained that expanding the electric vehicle ecosystem is a core strategy within Cambodia’s upcoming Nationally Determined Contributions NDC 3.0 report, which focuses heavily on mitigating emissions from the transport sector. He encouraged members of the public to actively participate in the nation’s Environmental Circular Strategy, which is built upon three foundational pillars: cleanliness, greenness, and sustainability, to ensure both public well-being and long-term economic resilience.

To achieve these climate targets, the government continues to incentivize the adoption of electric vehicles through tax benefits, expanding critical charging infrastructure, and enforcing carbon-reduction goals. Cambodia remains committed to transitioning to full carbon neutrality by 2050, with specific targets to increase the share of electric vehicles to between 35 and 40% for cars and up to 70% for motorcycles by the mid-century deadline.
