Rapid expansion of charging infrastructure and rising consumer confidence drive a historic surge in sustainable mobility across the Kingdom

Cambodia witnessed a significant shift toward sustainable transportation in 2025, with electric vehicle (EV) registrations reaching a record-breaking 7,971 units. This milestone was highlighted during an annual review meeting on February 5, 2026, presided over by His Excellency Peng Ponea, Minister of Public Works and Transport, to evaluate the sector’s performance and outline strategic goals for the coming year.

The surge in EV adoption comes amidst a broader increase in national vehicle registrations. Throughout 2025, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport recorded a total of 522,455 new vehicle registrations, which included 429,353 motorcycles and 93,102 automobiles of various types. While traditional vehicles still dominate the market, the nearly 8,000 new EVs signify a growing preference for cleaner energy alternatives among Cambodian citizens and businesses.

To support this transition, the Royal Government has prioritized the development of essential infrastructure. Currently, the Kingdom boasts more than 200 fast-charging stations operating nationwide, providing the necessary network to alleviate range anxiety and encourage long-distance electric travel. This commitment to building a robust EV ecosystem underscores Cambodia’s dedication to reducing carbon emissions and fostering a modernized, environmentally-friendly transport system for the future.
