Cambodia Has 21 Solar Panel Factories Worth US$173 Million

21 solar panel factories are actively operating production in Cambodia with a total investment of registered US$173.3 million.

HE Heng Sokkung, Secretary of State and spokesman at the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation, said that among the total factories, 18 factories are a result of Chinese investments and the other three are Cambodian, Malaysian, and French investments, respectively.

Of the 21 factories, nine are located in Phnom Penh, six in Kandal province, three in Sihanoukville province, two in Kampong Speu province, and one in Koh Kong province.

Recently, the Council for the Development of Cambodia issued an investment registration certificate for a US$84.5 million solar panel plant in a Special Economic Zone in Kratie province.

The new investment in the solar panel plant was unveiled just a month after the United States, a major market for solar panels exported from Cambodia announced tariff exemptions on solar cell and module imports from Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam.

In the first quarter, Cambodia exported more than US$13 million worth of solar panels.
