Cambodia Inks Deal With China on New Container Port in Kampot

Cambodia based Kampot Port Co., Ltd. and China state-owned company CRCC Harbor& Channel Engineering Bureau Group Co., Ltd. have signed a contract agreement on the construction of a container port and the construction of a 14-metre pumping station in Teuk Chhou district Kampot Province, according to the Kampot Administration Department.

Signed on 6 September, the ceremony was attended by Kampot Governor H.E Cheav Tay, H.E Soung Heng, Secretary of State for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT), representatives from the companies, and other respective government officials totaling to about 150 people.

The department did not specify details of the construction of the container port such as the date of construction or the amount of investment.

Meanwhile, speaking at the signing ceremony, H.E Cheav Tay welcomed the project while hoping that once it is operational, it will generate income for the country as well as create jobs for those living in Kampot province.

In addition, H.E Cheav Tay added that currently, Kampot Province has five seaports and four cement factories (three are in operation) which are all contributing to Cambodia’s economy.
