Cambodia-Malaysia Trade Volume Approached USD 1 Billion by 2024

In a remarkable boost for regional economic ties, Cambodia and Malaysia are on track to achieve nearly USD 1 billion in bilateral trade by 2024. This optimistic projection follows a significant meeting held on August 12, 2025, between the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce and the China-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce, which aimed at strengthening business relations between the two nations.

During the meeting, a representative from the China-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce underscored the vital need for cooperative projects that would enhance economic collaboration. The discussions explored potential areas for joint ventures during the delegation’s visit to Cambodia, signaling a mutual commitment to fostering economic growth.

Oknha Kith Meng, President of the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the ASEAN Business Consultative Council for Cambodia, shared his vision for the country’s economic future. He expressed optimism about Cambodia’s potential to reach high-income status by 2050, driven by a young and skilled workforce, an inviting investment climate, and strategic governmental policies.

The event also highlighted sectors that present exciting opportunities for collaboration, including infrastructure development, the digital economy, sustainable agriculture, and tourism.

Economic ties between Cambodia and Malaysia have long been robust, with Malaysian companies making substantial investments in Cambodia since the 1990s. These investments have predominantly focused on telecommunications, banking, construction, and manufacturing, further solidifying the relationship between the two nations.

As both countries work diligently to nurture their economic partnership, the future of Cambodia-Malaysia trade appears bright, paving the way for enhanced growth and mutual prosperity.
