Cambodia Pledges to Use 40% Electric Cars & 30% Electric Motorbikes by 2050

Cambodia has committed with the United Nations to use 40% electric cars and 30% electric motorbikes by 2050, aiming at reducing carbon emissions to zero.

Minister of Public Works and Transport HE Sun Chanthol made the remark during the meeting with representatives of five major gas stations Thursday 3 February to discuss EV infrastructure.

The meeting discussed possible cooperation between the ministry and the five firms regarding the installation of EV charging stations at their gas stations nationwide.

The ministry intends to install two EV charging stations on the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway and at least 10 others on major national road networks such as NR1, NR5, NR6, and NR7.

The ministry also plans to request food delivery service providers such as Food Panda, NHAM24 and E-Gets to use electric motorcycles instead of gasoline-powered motorcycles.  (Read more)
