Cambodia Signs 12 Mous With China Worth More Than Us$80 Million

The Ministry of Commerce (MoC) signed 12 memoranda of understanding (MoU) with China during the 15th China-ASEAN Expo on 13 August worth more than US$80 million.

According to the MoC, the comprehensive agreements will cover cooperation in key areas including: 1) Business-to-Business 2) Human resource training for tour guides and engineering (high-speed railway, hydropower dams and irrigation systems) 3) Construction of air routes 4) Establishment of an industrial research college and 5) Building a Sino-ASEAN tourism training centre.

Speaking at the signing ceremony in Nanning city, Guangxi Province, H.E Chhuon Dara, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce (MoC) representing Minister of Commerce H.E Pan Sorasak said that this event reflects Cambodia’s commitment in joining the “21st Century Maritime Silk Road” as well as supporting the implementation of China’s Belt and Road initiative which aims to promote regional economic integration into through trade, investment and tourism.

Meanwhile, Mrs Yan Zhichan, deputy director of the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region said that these MoUs will help strengthen the comprehensive cooperation in order to achieve the Maritime Silk Road initiative.

China has invested heavily in infrastructure projects in Cambodia, including the Mekong River Bridge project, the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone project, highway projects, as well as the construction of hydropower dams.
