Cambodian Government Unveils Incentives for USD 400 Million Northeast Investment Projects

The Royal Government of Cambodia has announced a set of special incentives aimed at boosting economic development in the Northeast, facilitating 11 investment projects with a total capital of USD 400 million. This initiative is expected to create approximately 800 jobs in the region, marking a significant step toward enhancing local employment opportunities.

The announcement was made during a recent meeting chaired by His Excellency Dr. Hean Sahib, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Chairman of the Northeast Investment Promotion Working Group (NEIPG). H.E. Dr. Sahib detailed that these investment projects span various sectors, indicating a diverse approach to economic growth. The projects include four in Kratie Province, one in Stung Treng Province, four in Ratanakkiri Province, and two in Mondulkiri Province. They encompass agricultural production and processing, agro-industrial crop cultivation, hotel and resort construction, educational institutions, private healthcare, and the development of transportation infrastructure.

A standout project includes the construction of a multi-purpose port in Kratie province, which is set to be the first of its kind in both the province and the entire Northeast region. This port is poised to significantly enhance water transport capacity while transforming the area into a logistics hub for agricultural and industrial products. It is also expected to integrate with the broader logistics system of the Funan Techo Canal in the future.

As of October 31, 2025, the Northeast region has received 21 investment project proposals amounting to approximately USD 700 million, reflecting a growing interest in the area. The working group has welcomed proposals from a diverse range of investors, including those from China, Japan, and Vietnam, as well as local investors eager to expand their investment activities.

This strategic investment initiative not only aims to foster economic development in the Northeast but also underscores Cambodia’s commitment to attracting foreign investment and creating sustainable employment in the region.
