Cambodia’s Construction Investment in First 8 Months of 2020 Decreased by 15%

The total estimated investment capital of construction projects approved by the government in the first eight months of 2020 was approximately US$5 billion, down by 15.1% compared to the same period in 2019, according to a report of the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

The report also stated that though the investment decreased, the number of projects, in contrast, rose by 455 projects, which is at 3,350 projects. Meanwhile, the total area of these proposed project is 11.4 million square metres, a 4.8% decrease compared to the same period in 2019.

Among them, residential buildings got the most proportion with a total of 2,819 projects or accounting for 84% of the total number. This is an increase of 375 projects compared to the same period last year.

According to the report, the demand for housing in Cambodia continues to increase despite the spread of COVID-19.
