Cambodia Completes Major Expansion of National Road 7 Connecting Skun and Kampong Cham

The $117 million infrastructure upgrade backed by China is set for an official inauguration by Prime Minister Hun Manet in July…

The extensive upgrade of National Road 7, stretching over 45 kilometers to connect the hub of Skun with Kampong Cham town, has officially reached 100% completion. To mark this infrastructural milestone, a formal handover and acceptance ceremony was conducted on June 15, 2026, following a thorough technical inspection of the roadway. Lim Sidenin, State Secretary of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and the designated project director, confirmed that the expansion and quality enhancement of this 45.50-kilometer stretch starting from Skun town in Cheung Prey district to the heart of Kampong Cham province has been fully and successfully executed.

National Road 7 serves as a vital economic artery for Cambodia, functioning as a logistical backbone that links the central plains directly to the northeastern territories of the kingdom. The newly improved corridor is expected to significantly ease daily travel and lower the transport costs of commercial goods, agricultural produce, and industrial outputs. By streamlining regional transit, the infrastructure asset aims to catalyze socio-economic development, stimulate local business activities, and attract fresh private investments along the entire length of the highway.

The comprehensive construction initiative to widen National Road 7 into a robust four-lane highway covers a precise distance of 45.504 kilometers, from marker PK00+000 to PK45+502.84. This development project originally broke ground in January 2023 with a total investment capital of $117 million ($2.571 million per kilometer), funded through a concessional loan provided by the Government of China. Following the successful completion of all engineering works, an official inauguration ceremony is scheduled to take place on July 7, 2026, which will be presided over by Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia.
