Cambodia’s Special Economic Zones Surge to 65 Sites with Demand for 35,000 Additional Workers

Cambodia’s industrial landscape is experiencing an unprecedented phase of rapid expansion, marked by a surge in both the number and operational scale of Special Economic Zones across the country. The total number of registered Special Economic Zones in the Kingdom has now reached 65 sites, demonstrating sustained investor momentum and strong economic confidence. This significant industrial milestone was highlighted during an official delegation visit led by Chea Vuthy, Secretary General of the Cambodian Investment Board of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, who conducted comprehensive site inspections at the Sin Bavet Special Economic Zone and the Forceon Giga Special Economic Zone in Svay Rieng province on July 17, 2026.

During the official visit, Chea Vuthy provided a comprehensive status update regarding the operational performance of these designated industrial zones. Out of the 65 total Special Economic Zones nationwide, 39 zones are currently in full operation, actively driving domestic manufacturing and export growth. These operational zones have already absorbed a massive workforce, providing direct employment to over 250,000 local Cambodian workers. Furthermore, to support ongoing production expansions and incoming factory facilities, operating enterprises within these zones are actively seeking an additional workforce of more than 35,000 employees.

According to the Council for the Development of Cambodia, the strategic development of Special Economic Zones has contributed immensely to national socio-economic progress. Beyond quantitative job growth, these hubs have successfully introduced advanced, high-value industrial clusters into the national economy. Key manufacturing sectors established within the zones include automotive tire production, motor vehicle assembly plants, bicycle assembly lines, complex electronic equipment manufacturing, and furniture component production. These modern industries offer reliable employment opportunities and fair wages to local residents, fostering sustainable livelihood improvements.

The Royal Government of Cambodia has emphasized that the steady growth of Special Economic Zones reflects deep-seated trust among international investors. Even in the face of global economic uncertainties, infrastructure development and enterprise investments inside these specialized zones continue to progress steadily.
