Canada-ASEAN Business Council Eyes Agro-Industrial Investments in Cambodia

The Canada-ASEAN Business Council (CABC) is actively exploring investment opportunities in Cambodia’s burgeoning agro-industrial sector, underscoring the nation’s potential as a hub for agricultural and food industry growth. This initiative was discussed during a meeting on 28 August 2024 between HE Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, and the President of CABC, alongside other key officials.

The discussions centred on the current investment climate in Cambodia, with a focus on the agro-industry, food industry, and associated production and supply chains. Both parties examined the progress within these sectors, noting the potential economic benefits for Cambodia, a country with a strong agricultural base. The investments are expected to enhance food security and bolster Cambodia’s position in the regional market.

Additionally, during a special statement reflecting on the one-year achievements of the Government of the 7th legislature of the National Assembly from 22 August 2023 to 22 August 2024, Samdech PM Hun Manet highlighted that the CDC approved 391 investment projects valued at approximately USD 7.6 billion.

The PM also emphasised the diverse participation of investors from countries including China, the United States, Japan, Canada, South Korea, Sweden, ASEAN nations, the European Union, and Australia. He encouraged further exploration of investment opportunities, pointing to government strategies designed to attract and support foreign investment.
