Grants Concessional Loan to Build Tonle Bassac Bridge Connecting Chak Angre Krom & Prek Pra

Cambodia and China have come together to sign a concessional loan agreement for the construction of the grand Tonle Bassac Bridge, creating a vital link between Chak Angre Krom and Prek Pra. This momentous agreement was officially announced through a press release from the Royal Government’s spokesperson on 17 September 2023.

The signing ceremony took place during a four-day official visit by Cambodian PM Hun Manet to China, reinforcing the commitment of both nations to fortify their cooperative endeavours. During this visit, 14 additional cooperation documents were also signed, reflecting the comprehensive nature of the partnership. Notably, these documents included an action plan outlining the path to a shared destiny for Cambodia and China in the new era of 2024-2028.

PM Hun Manet engaged with the presidents of major international Chinese companies, fostering business and economic ties. He also met with representatives from Cambodian-Chinese industrial and commercial enterprises, further promoting economic collaboration.

Adding to the significance of the visit, PM Hun Manet participated in the opening ceremony of the ASEAN-China Expo and the Business, Economic, and Trade Cooperation Summit. This event showcased the region’s growing economic integration and underlined the importance of Cambodia’s role in these developments. Additionally, the summit served as a platform for discussions on the Third Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP), signalling Cambodia’s active participation in regional economic initiatives.

Highlighting the importance of the Tonle Bassac Bridge project, the Cambodian government intends to construct a steel bridge to connect the Chak Angre Krom and Prek Pra areas, enhancing the convenience of travel for the public.
