China Building World’s Largest Electric River Cruise Ship

Chinese firm, Wuxi Saisiyi Electric Technology, is currently building an electric river cruise ship, named the Yangtze River Three Gorges 1, which is poised to become the world’s largest of its kind after completion.

According to insideevs, the project was announced in December and will be launched in July and enter service in November 2021. The ship will cruise on popular tourist routes, including the Two Dams and One Gorge, the Yichang Yangtze River Night Cruise, and the Three Gorges Shiplift.

Besides the largest size and passenger capacity, this cruise ship will be equipped with over 10,000 LFP-type batteries supplied by Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL), which gives approximate power of 7.5 MWh.

According to the initial information from CATL, there will be two charging options, which are high-voltage and low-voltage methods.

After launch, the Yangtze River Three Gorges 1 will overtake the current position of the world’s largest battery-powered passenger ship, the 4.3-megawatt Ellen in Denmark.
