China Energy International Eyes Major Expansion into Cement, Clean Water, and Green Power

In a significant boost to Cambodia’s industrial and green energy transition, Chinese infrastructure leader China Energy International Group Co., Ltd. has officially declared its intention to expand its investment footprint across the Kingdom. The commitment was highlighted on July 15, 2026, during a high-profile bilateral meeting in China between Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet and Qiao Xubin, President of China Energy International Group Co., Ltd. The high-level discussions marked a pivotal step in deepening industrial cooperation and green energy infrastructure between the two nations.

During the meeting, Qiao Xubin outlined his company’s strategic vision to diversify its operations in Cambodia beyond its traditional core. While China Energy International has long maintained an active presence in the Kingdom, focusing primarily on Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contracts for major power infrastructure, the executive expressed strong enthusiasm for branching into new, high-potential sectors. Specifically, the Chinese enterprise is actively seeking to invest in cement manufacturing, large-scale clean water treatment facilities, and expanded renewable energy generation, reaffirming its pride in contributing directly to Cambodia’s long-term energy security and economic development.

In response, Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet warmly welcomed the group’s investment ambitions, commending the company’s unwavering confidence in Cambodia’s economic potential and business climate. The Prime Minister underscored that clean energy development remains a top strategic priority for the Royal Government of Cambodia as it balances rapid industrialization with environmental sustainability. He highlighted that Cambodia currently derives approximately 62 percent of its total energy mix from renewable sources, with active policy measures underway to elevate that figure to 70 percent by 2030. To facilitate these expansion plans, the Prime Minister encouraged China Energy International to engage directly with relevant Cambodian ministries and government bodies to turn these investment intentions into concrete projects.

As Cambodia continues its rapid physical and industrial modernization, partnerships with global engineering leaders like China Energy International are crucial for building resilient, future-ready infrastructure. By aligning major foreign investments with national environmental targets, the Kingdom is cementing its role as a regional leader in sustainable development.
