Chinese Firm Eyes​ High-speed Rail Project in Cambodia

Construction firm China Railway Group Limited has disclosed its plan to invest in a high-speed rail line in Cambodia as a result of a meeting held on August 13, 2018, according to Kampuchea Thmey Daily.

According to the same source, the investment plan was revealed during a meeting between Neak Oknha Pung Kheav Se, Chairman and President of Canadia Bank Plc and President of Overseas Cambodia Investment Corporation (OCIC), and a representative from China Railway Group Limited Ms Dai Jiayi.

During the meeting, Ms Dai Jiayi said that her company is planning to invest in Cambodia in the very near future citing the great opportunity to invest in a high-speed rail line in the country.

The meeting did no, however, disclose any future details on the investment plan, the timeframe or partnering companies.

China Railway Group Limited’score business is in infrastructure construction ranging from railways, highways, bridges, tunnels, buildings, irrigation works, hydroelectricity projects and more.

If this investment plan comes into fruition, it will shape the country’s railway transportation as China is well-known for its high-speed rail which can travel at speeds of up to 250–350 km/h.
