Chinese Firm Proposes New Automotive Battery Component Plant in Sihanoukville

Preah Sihanouk province is poised to expand its light industrial manufacturing sector following a proposal by a Chinese investor to establish a specialized metal processing factory for electric vehicle battery components. The project advanced further into the regulatory pipeline after the provincial administration conducted a comprehensive on-site evaluation of the proposed factory grounds.

On 25 May 2026, Long Dimanche, the Deputy Governor of Preah Sihanouk Province and Vice Chairman of the Sihanoukville Provincial Investment Subcommittee, led a delegation of technical experts and relevant officials to inspect the site. The venture is being launched by Pu Feng New Energy Technology Co., LTD, with the designated facility planned for construction in Sangkat 1 of Sihanoukville.

During the field inspection, the Deputy Governor urged the company to prioritize the local population during its hiring phases to support regional economic development. Furthermore, he highlighted the necessity of providing robust labor protections, instructing the enterprise to properly enroll all upcoming staff and laborers into the National Social Security Fund system. To ensure a safe and sustainable working environment, provincial authorities also called for the construction of well-ventilated workshops, the installation of secure emergency exits, and the implementation of comprehensive fire prevention infrastructure. Long Dimanche additionally recommended planting numerous trees across the property to improve aesthetics and promote the daily comfort of the workforce.

According to the project specifications submitted by the developers, the facility will focus on processing metals into component parts essential for the manufacturing of car batteries. The entirety of the factory’s output is slated for export, with China designated as the primary consumer market. When operating at peak production capacity, the new facility is projected to create direct employment for approximately 100 workers.
