Construction of 10-hectare Landfill in Kampot Set for Completion by July 2022

The construction of the ADB-funded 10-hectare landfill in Kampot province is over now 16% complete and scheduled for final completion by July 2022, according to Kampot Provincial Governor Cheav Tai during a site inspection on Tuesday 27 July.

Located in Thmey commune, Teuk Chhou district, ground was broken on the project in early July this year and is being implemented by the Heng Sambath Construction firm with a US$2-million loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The whole project includes the construction of two landfills, two wastewater treatment ponds, a sewage treatment plant, an administrative building, and a water quality control well.

In addition, the project includes repairing the access road to the landfill, setting up a car weighing station and trash sorting facility, as well as building a fence around the landfill.

Governor Cheav Tai said that the construction of this facility responds to the increasing amount of garbage in the city and also to improve the overall hygiene of Kampot province.
