Construction of NR10 Connecting Battambang to Koh Kong 54% Complete

By the end of November 2021, the construction of 198km NR10 connecting Battambang to Koh Kong was 54.89% completed, according to the site inspection by the Minister of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) HE Sun Chanthol Friday 3 December.

HE Sun Chanthol also urged construction companies and technical consultants to closely monitor the construction work to ensure it follows technical standards to ensure long-term usage.

Stretching over 199km, the road links Samlot district in Battambang province to Koh Kong province passing through Veal Veng district in Pursat province. The project is being constructed with an investment of over US$188 million, which is a mixture of a Chinese loan and Cambodian government budget.

The project is being built in accordance with Chinese level 3 technical standards, paved with double-layers DBST, with a total width of 9m.

The route will also include the construction of 23 bridges with a length of 1,721m. Meanwhile, 65.89km of the road is a detour around the Cardamom mountain, as the engineering team try to avoid cutting the mountain to preserve the environment and wildlife.

With ground broken in March 2020, the road is being built by China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) under the technical supervision of Guangzhou Wanan Construction Supervision Co., Ltd. and will take 48 months to complete, which will be around late 2023.

NR10 is an important artery of Cambodia’s national economy, helping connect the Khmer-Thai border to the deep seaport in Sihanoukville through Battambang and Kong Kong. With this route, cargo trucks do not have to pass through Phnom Penh, which is more cost and time effective.
